Clinical Hypnosis

Research published in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis has proven that clinical hypnosis helps to alleviate PTSD symptoms in patients. Hypnosis has unfortunately gotten a bad rep in the media, often viewed as “mind control.” However, this is far from the truth, and the patient getting treated for PTSD with hypnosis is ALWAYS in full control of the experience.

In my clinical expertise, hypnosis is very effective in helping reduce strong trauma triggers, anxiety, phobias, unresolved painful emotions, rumination, fear, and trauma.

Before I begin hypnosis with my patients, I ask them what are three things they would like to work through during the treatment. Based on their goals, I will offer suggestions while they are in a trance. Through intense focus and relaxation, I help bring my clients into a trance-like state, which opens the subconscious mind to deeper healing and the suggestions I offer.

Through various techniques, the client’s brain will move into theta-dominant wavelengths, a hypnotic-like state that helps them:

  • Access traumatic material with less rigid avoidance

  • Experience emotions without immediately shutting them down

  • Work with imagery (rather than just narrative cognition)

I like to take my patients on a journey, often using mental imagery including nature scenes and peaceful surroundings. Then, through metaphoric language and suggestion I start the healing process. Throughout the session I communicate with my client to keep them grounded, but I use a fluctuating tone of voice to also continue the therapeutic process. When the session is complete, I slowly bring my clients out of the trance and back into the present moment.

Many of my patients immediately feel more relaxed, open, creative, and relieved after just one session. However to fortify the healing I recommend at least three hypnosis sessions. Each hypnosis session is about 20-25 minutes. I often do hypnosis at the end of a typical 45-50 minute session.
